The Impact of Broadband Technology on Internet Usage

The Internet has a big impact on the world every since it first became public during the late 1990's. With the Internet, people now have a means of communicating disregarding the barriers such as distance and even language. Email and instant messengers have ensured a way that people can chat in real time, because messages get across so fast it would almost be like you are right next to them.

Its importance to society have prompted developers to further improve the technologies that make the Internet usable. One such result of improvements is the broadband, a standard that allows for higher transfer speeds as compared to what was available for the consumer. While what was available for people before was only a transfer rate of 56 kbps, the introduction of broadband Internet allowed people to enjoy speeds in excess of 256 kilobits per second.

Broadband made it possible for users of the Internet to do things that were not possible before. One of these is being able to exchange large files with ease. More files are now readily shared and available in the Internet because it is easier to download and upload files including movies and other large files.

The speed provided by broadband Internet also allowed for the streaming of videos in almost real-time. While that had not been possible for dial-up connections, the high transfer rate of broadband loads the movie faster making it possible for people to watch their favorite TV shows and music videos online.
