Electronic Devices Required for a Broadband Connection

When you look around, you will find that consumer electronic devices are dominating today's society. These gadgets help make our tasks easier, even the most simple ones like preparing coffee and waking us up in the morning. They are so popular that you can find a consumer electronic device for just about anything, including browsing the Internet with a broadband connection.

The first thing that you would need to have in order to be ready for a broadband connection is a filter. If you have an active phone line, you would need an ADSL filter to keep the phone line free. This means that, with a filter, you can continue using the phone even if the DSL line is active. This is a contrast with the 56K dial up connection where the line gets cut when someone makes a call or when someone lifts up the phone. That is why DSL users are always online; they do not have to cut the connection in order to accommodate someone who is making a call.

The second consumer electronic device involved in a broadband Internet connection is a router. This acts as a gateway for the computer to connect to the Internet. A router is also needed if you want to distribute the connection to one or more computers.

The third electronic device is the Network Interface Card, or more commonly known as the LAN card. This card will be each computer's connection to the router, through the use of an RJ-45 cable. The LAN card is capable of at most 100 MBps. Not al of this speed will be used, but the transfer rate is needed to accommodate the broadband connection's rate.
